Introduction

The founders of A2A(Athlete to Athlete) were former athletes who wanted to change the way youth athletes were supported. The idea was to connect youth athletes with mentors from Division One colleges. This would help fill the gaps in a kid's athletic journey. A2A aimed to achieve this by providing real-time knowledge transfer from senior athletes.

The idea was an instant hit. The mentorship helped the youth stay dedicated, build confidence, and persevere. They learned from someone who had already achieved what they aspired to. Division One athletes were the best to guide youth in their sports journey, providing the younger ones with the right mental and physical support and teaching them how to overcome failures.

A2A started gaining traction through word-of-mouth but was not able to make the most of it as the business was operated manually, such as mentor matching, scheduling classes, conducting them, keeping track, etc.

Challenges and Needs

While A2A's name picked up traction among people, their manual way of handling things couldn’t help them maximize this opportunity. They realized they needed to shift towards automation and streamline their process to scale. That's when they started searching for a tech partner who could understand their business needs and build them a platform that could:

  • Take care of the end-to-end user journey for signing up and having trial classes over the platform.
  • Direct users to choose a paid package after trial classes.
  • Provide four types of user logins. One each for a parent, kid, mentor, and admin.
  • Provide unique features in the dashboard depending upon the user, for example, to conduct classes, attend classes, observe a child's improvement, or see and manage the entire show.

Solution

A2A got to know about TechUp Labs through word of mouth. After basic research, they understood that TechUp Labs had built and provided tech solutions that have helped businesses grow. Once the decision was made to collaborate, TechUp Labs decided to build a platform that could automate their end-to-end business functions. A platform in which:

  • Users can sign up for a trial class, schedule it as per their needs, and rate the class once it's done.
  • If the user rates positive, the platform leads them to the payment page, and it notifies the sales team about the same. If negative, the platform notifies the sales team to connect with the user to understand what went wrong.
  • A paid user is given the option to schedule classes based on their mentor's available time slots. They are also given the option to reschedule and see mentor notes from each class.
  • Speaking of the mentor, the platform gives them the details of their students and their mentorship package. The mentor is given the option to mark unavailability in their daily time slots and can also add class notes for the students after every session. The platform also shows the mentor their earnings.
  • An admin can see the activity across the entire platform to make sure things are running smoothly.
  • Kids are allowed to have their profile under their parent's profile. This allows the parent to observe/monitor the child. Parents can also have multiple children's profiles under them for monitoring.

Implementation and Impact

After implementing this platform, A2A was able to streamline its process and make the best out of the growing traction. By removing manual processes, the platform gave A2A the time to focus on other key segments to grow their business. Overall, with this implementation:

  • Users were able to visit the website, sign up for a trial class, schedule it, complete it, rate it, and buy a paid package to enroll themselves. The entire user journey was automated.
  • A paid user was able to engage in the dashboard without any manual assistance to have classes with the mentor. If support was needed, the team was always there.
  • A2A was able to smoothly handle the growing traction through an automated process and they were also able to provide a great user experience.
  • College athletes had ease of use to take classes based on their availability. As mentors, they were able to get paid for their skills and also felt great to be part of something meaningful.

Conclusion

In sports, each child has the freedom to shine with their talent and it also helps them get into a good college. Rather than putting efforts without the right guidance, it's far wiser for the child to learn from someone who's in a place where the child wishes to be.

A2A's vision was to give every young athlete the best shot at sports. Supporting this vision required strong tech as a foundation. The collaboration with TechUp Labs equipped A2A with the right tech at the right time, and with this, they were able to automate their user journey, capitalize on the growing traction, provide great user experience, and take the business to the next level.
